April Ross
April Ross is one of only a few female beach volleyball athletes to win medals in several Olympics. In Tokyo during the coming days, she'll try to claim her third Olympic medal together with fellow first-time Olympian Alix Klineman. But more than that, Ross is aiming to capture her first Olympic gold. It could be the last opportunity she gets when she turns 39. But she's convinced that top honors are firmly on the horizon. If we do our best or even if we play very well, I think we can get that gold medal Ross stated on NBC Boston. So I'm going to take the chance as well. Ross is born in the year 1982. Costa Mesa California where she resided with her parents and sister. Ross played in numerous activities while at Newport Harbor High School. She was a basketball player and also ran track in addition to her indoor volleyball achievements as a prep athlete. She was definitely a distinguished athlete when it came to the second sport. According to her biography, she was a middle blocker and an outside hitter on the volleyball court during her senior year of high school. The award was presented to her as The Gatorade National Circle of Champions player of the year in 1999 for her efforts. In addition, she was awarded the 2000 Orange County Athlete of the Year trophy for volleyball. While Ross and Klineman have been playing together in 2017 and beyond, Klineman was already a big-time athlete on the beach even before the pair formed. She has won major competitions with a variety of partners. The other is an iconic player in the volleyball world. They teamed up with Jennifer Kessy from 2007-2013, as well as serving as Klineman and Kessy's coach. Kessy and Ross were a formidable force in the world of professional sports, winning their first world title in 2009. In 2012, the team took silver in London's Olympic Games. Misty Maytreanor (Jennings) as well as Misty Maytreanor took home gold ahead of them. In the end, fate had it that way. Ross turned out to be Walsh Jennings' new partner in the event that May-Treanor decided to retire. In 2016, the duo were awarded bronze medals at the Rio Olympics for beach volleyball. After high school and several years prior to hitting the sand in her professional career, Ross made her debut for the USC Trojans as an collegiate. Her time at USC was exceptional. It was her time to be an All-American and Pac-10 Freshman of the Year in 2000. The team also saw her help in helping the Trojans advance to their first Final Four. The Trojans suffered a heartbreaking personal loss during her sophomore year, but she still repeated as an All-American. The last two years within the team, she guided the Trojans to the top of the hill, capturing three consecutive championships at the national level. Individually she had cemented herself as an all-time legend having won this year's Honda Sports Award as the most outstanding female college volleyball player. Ross graduated with a degree in the field of international relations in USC. Margie Ross did not see her daughter achieve the heights of the beach volleyball world. Ross's mom Margie passed away in the year 2001. Ross was still in the midst of being a USC sophomore. It was discovered that she had breast cancer. She holds her mom dear. Margie remains an inspiration at the beach as well as throughout her entire life.
