Dolly Parton, who was born in Locust Ridge Tenn. on Jan. 19. 1946 into a very poor family with 12 kids later on, realized early that she was able to escape her hardships through a creative mind. Before she learned to read and write, Dolly Parton was creating her own songs. The first time she picked up a guitar was when she was 8 and started singing at a Knoxville Tenn radio station at age eleven. That following time, Gold Band Records was a small independent record label. Although she became popular in the local scene while she was at high school, her ambitions were much bigger. In the exact day that she graduated the high school in 1964. Dumb Blonde (1967) and Something Fishy (1968) were her two first charting albums on Monument Records. Porter Wagoner began looking for new female vocalists for his TV show syndicated by a network at around the same time. Parton began her career in the year 1967 she signed with RCA Records by 1968, and became a member of the Grand Ole Opry. However she left Wagoner's show in 1974 as her solo releases such as Joshua Coat of Many Colors and Jolene had begun charting their collaborative efforts.
